Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PS150 is a psychobiotic probiotic strain of *Limosilactobacillus fermentum* (formerly *Lactobacillus fermentum*) developed by the Taiwan-based company Bened Biomedical. It functions through the gut-brain axis to address sleep disorders and emotional health. The strain's mechanism of action involves the regulation of sleep-related neurotransmitters, specifically by increasing gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels in the cerebral cortex and inhibiting wake-promoting orexinergic neurons. Research indicates that exopolysaccharides (EPS) produced by PS150 are key effectors responsible for its hypnotic and sedative effects. PS150 has demonstrated efficacy in both live and heat-killed (HT-PS150) forms in preclinical models and is currently undergoing clinical trials for sleep improvement in healthy populations. It received the 22nd National Innovation Award in Taiwan in December 2025.
