Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Limosilactobacillus reuteri 3613 is a specific probiotic strain developed by PrecisionBiotics Group (a subsidiary of Novonesis) for the prevention and management of recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women. As a live biotherapeutic product (LBP), it is designed to be administered orally to modulate the urogenital microbiome, creating an environment that is inhospitable to uropathogens such as Escherichia coli. The strain works through mechanisms of competitive exclusion, where it outcompetes pathogenic bacteria for adhesion sites and nutrients, and by producing antimicrobial metabolites that inhibit pathogen growth. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials to determine its efficacy in reducing the frequency of symptomatic UTI episodes in women with a history of recurrence.
