Overview

Limosilactobacillus reuteri Fn041 is a specific strain of the probiotic bacterium Limosilactobacillus reuteri, originally isolated from the breast milk of Gannan females in China. This strain is sIgA-coated and has been patented (strain storage number GDMCC60546). It is formulated as a solid beverage for oral supplementation and included in the list of bacterium strains that can be used for food by the National Health Commission of China[1]. Mechanistically, L. reuteri Fn041 acts as a live biotherapeutic product that modulates gut microbiota composition and immune responses. In preclinical studies, maternal supplementation with this strain during late pregnancy and lactation protected offspring against atopic dermatitis (AD) by remodeling intestinal microbiota and regulating immune gene expression[1][2]. The probiotic increases synthesis of secretory IgA (sIgA), enhances intestinal barrier function, regulates cytokines to improve mucosal structure/permeability, and may promote anti-inflammatory effects through modulation of T-cell populations[3]. Clinical trials are ongoing to evaluate its efficacy in preventing atopic dermatitis in infants when administered to mothers during pregnancy/lactation[1].
