Overview

Limosilactobacillus reuteri PBS072 is a specific strain of probiotic bacteria that has been investigated for a variety of health benefits, primarily related to the gut-brain axis. It is often studied in combination with another probiotic strain, Bifidobacterium breve BB077. Clinical and preclinical studies suggest its potential in mental health by reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety, particularly in the postpartum period. It has also been shown to help manage stress and improve sleep quality. In laboratory models using C. elegans, L. reuteri PBS072 demonstrated geroprotective effects, including extending lifespan and reducing markers of aging. The mechanism of action is believed to involve modulation of the gut microbiota, which in turn influences the gut-brain axis through pathways involving neurotransmitters like GABA and serotonin, and inhibition of the epigenetic enzyme LSD1. Additionally, it has shown in vitro antibacterial activity against oral pathogens.
