Overview
Linacret-5 is an oral branded generic antidiabetic medication developed and manufactured by Cytech Pharma for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains 5 mg of linagliptin, a small molecule inhibitor of the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4). By blocking DPP-4, the drug prevents the degradation of incretin hormones, specifically glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). This action results in increased insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and reduced glucagon secretion from alpha cells in a glucose-dependent manner, thereby improving glycemic control. Linacret-5 is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise and can be administered as monotherapy or in combination with other glucose-lowering agents.
