Overview
Linagliptin + metformin is an oral combination medication used to treat high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Linagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that increases the half-life of incretin hormones such as GLP-1 and gastric inhibitory polypeptide, enhancing glucose-dependent insulin secretion and reducing glucagon production. Metformin primarily acts by inhibiting hepatic gluconeogenesis and improving peripheral insulin sensitivity, thereby lowering fasting blood glucose levels. The combination provides complementary mechanisms for improved glycemic control. This drug is not indicated for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis[1][2][3][6].
