Overview
Ling-shao Zao-ren Formula is a traditional Chinese medicine formula, presented as a granule, that is being investigated for its efficacy in treating overactive bladder. It is associated with the traditional formula Suanzaorentang (酸棗仁湯), which is historically used to address sleep issues, anxiety, and nerve-related conditions. The traditional formula is known to improve insomnia by regulating the gut microbiota-metabolite-brain axis, restoring neurotransmitter balance, reducing oxidative stress, and inhibiting neuroinflammation. Its bioactive components, such as jujubogenin, jujuboside A, jujuboside B, and spinosin, are believed to enhance sleep activity by stimulating serotonin and GABA receptors, and modulating neuroactive ligand-receptor interactions and the PI3K/AKT pathway. In the context of overactive bladder, preclinical studies suggest that Ling-shao Zao-ren Formula may increase bladder volume and maximum bladder pressure by reducing Piezo1 expression.
