Overview

Liothyronine I 131 is a radioconjugate consisting of the synthetic thyroid hormone liothyronine (T3) labeled with radioactive iodine isotope Iodine 131. It combines the metabolic and cellular regulatory effects of liothyronine—a key hormone in growth, development, and metabolism—with the radiotherapeutic properties of iodine 131. This compound is primarily investigated for use in radiotherapy for thyroid cancers and has also been studied in clinical trials for congenital heart defects such as tricuspid atresia. The radioactive component allows targeted destruction of thyroid tissue or cancer cells that uptake thyroid hormones[5][7][2].
