Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lipanthyl nano is a nanoparticle formulation of fenofibrate, a small molecule fibrate drug used for the treatment of hyperlipidemia. It functions as a Peroxisome Proliferator-activated Receptor alpha (PPARα) agonist, which increases the lipolysis and elimination of triglyceride-rich particles from plasma by activating lipoprotein lipase and reducing the production of apoprotein C-III. This specific formulation utilizes nanotechnology (often NanoCrystal technology) to reduce the drug's particle size, significantly enhancing its dissolution rate and bioavailability. A key clinical advantage of the nanoparticle formulation is that its absorption is independent of food intake, unlike earlier micronized versions of fenofibrate which required administration with meals for optimal efficacy. It is indicated for reducing elevated LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and apolipoprotein B, and for increasing HDL cholesterol, often as an adjunct to diet or in combination with statins.
