Overview

Lipase PB500 is a recombinant enzyme derived from the thermophilic bacterium *Thermus thermophilus*, developed by the Spanish biotechnology company Proteos Biotech. It is a key component of the PBSerum product line, specifically designed for aesthetic medicine to target localized adipose tissue. The enzyme functions by penetrating fat cells and catalyzing the breakdown of stored triglycerides into free fatty acids and glycerol, which are then naturally metabolized and eliminated by the body. This enzymatic lipolysis reduces the volume of adipocytes without causing cell lysis or damaging the cell membrane. Lipase PB500 is indicated for facial and hand rejuvenation, body contouring, and the reduction of localized fat deposits. It is commercially available and is regulated as a Class III medical device in the European Union.
