Overview

LIPO-5 is an experimental HIV-1 vaccine consisting of five synthetic lipopeptides derived from the HIV-1 Gag, Pol, and Nef proteins. Developed by the French National Agency for AIDS Research (ANRS) and evaluated in collaboration with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), the vaccine is designed to induce T-cell mediated immune responses. Each peptide is covalently linked to a palmitoyl tail, which acts as a built-in adjuvant to enhance uptake by dendritic cells and stimulate a robust cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) response. It has been studied in Phase I/II trials both as a standalone agent and as a booster following priming with viral vectors like ALVAC-HIV (vCP1452).
