Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LipoCol Forte is a proprietary capsule formulation of red yeast rice (RYR), produced by fermenting rice with the yeast Monascus purpureus. Each capsule contains 600 mg of M. purpureus Went rice, including approximately 5.7 mg of monacolin K (lovastatin). The primary mechanism is inhibition of HMG-CoA reductase, leading to reduced cholesterol synthesis and significant antihypercholesterolemic effects. Clinical studies have shown that LipoCol Forte not only lowers lipid levels but also reduces the risk of liver cancer and improves perioperative outcomes such as lower risks of post-operative bleeding, pneumonia, stroke, and mortality in surgical patients. It has a good safety profile compared to pharmaceutical statins[1][4][6][7]. Developed and manufactured in Taiwan, it is approved as a new traditional Chinese medicine by the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) for use under health insurance coverage[3].
