Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lipofer is a water-dispersible, micronized, and microencapsulated source of iron, specifically ferric pyrophosphate. Developed by Lipofoods (a division of Lubrizol Life Science), it utilizes a specialized microencapsulation technology to enhance the bioavailability of iron while minimizing common drawbacks of traditional iron salts, such as metallic taste, tooth staining, and gastrointestinal irritation. The encapsulation protects the iron from interacting with the food matrix and the gastric environment, allowing for better absorption in the intestine. It is primarily used as a functional ingredient in dietary supplements, fortified foods, and beverages intended to treat or prevent iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia.
