Overview

Lipoplus + Omegaven is a combination of two intravenous lipid emulsions used in parenteral nutrition therapy. Lipoplus contains 40% soybean oil, 50% medium-chain triglycerides (MCT), and 10% fish oil, while Omegaven is a pure fish oil lipid emulsion (10% fish oil). This combination is used particularly in patients with intestinal failure requiring home parenteral nutrition. The fish oil component (Omegaven) is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, specifically eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which have anti-inflammatory properties and can help normalize antioxidant status and improve liver function in patients with parenteral nutrition-associated cholestasis (PNAC).
