Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Liposomal cholecalciferol** is a liposome-encapsulated formulation of cholecalciferol (vitamin D3). This delivery system improves the bioavailability, pharmacokinetics, and stability of vitamin D3, especially for hydrophobic molecules. Liposomal encapsulation allows for **enhanced cellular uptake, reduced toxicity (notably lower risk of hypercalcemia), and improved anticancer efficacy** versus conventional vitamin D3 formulations. Mechanistically, liposomal cholecalciferol acts as a ligand for the vitamin D receptor, modulating gene expression relating to cell proliferation, apoptosis, immune responses, and metabolic pathways. The liposomal delivery targets tissues through the enhanced permeability and retention effect, preferentially accumulating in tumors and minimizing exposure to healthy tissues.
