Overview

Liposomal Cyclosporine A for Inhalation (L-CsA-i) is a novel liposomal formulation of the calcineurin inhibitor cyclosporine A, specifically designed for delivery to the lungs via a nebulizer. Developed by Zambon SpA (following the acquisition of Breath Therapeutics), it is intended to treat Bronchiolitis Obliterans Syndrome (BOS), a form of chronic lung allograft dysfunction in lung transplant recipients. By delivering the immunosuppressant directly to the site of disease, L-CsA-i aims to achieve high local concentrations while minimizing systemic exposure and associated toxicities. It is currently in Phase 3 clinical trials (BOSTON-1 and BOSTON-2) and has received Orphan Drug and Fast Track designations from the FDA.
