Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Liposomal glutathione is a specialized oral formulation of the antioxidant tripeptide glutathione (GSH), in which reduced glutathione is encapsulated within lipid-based vesicles called liposomes. This delivery system protects the active molecule from degradation in the gastrointestinal tract and enhances its absorption into cells compared to standard oral forms[3][5][7]. Glutathione acts as a master antioxidant, neutralizing free radicals, supporting detoxification pathways (especially in the liver), modulating immune function, and aiding mitochondrial health[1][5][6]. Liposomal formulations have been shown in clinical studies to increase intracellular GSH levels more effectively than non-liposomal forms and may improve markers of oxidative stress and immune cell activity[3][5][7]. It is primarily marketed as a dietary supplement for general wellness, detoxification support, chronic disease management (such as diabetes or liver disease), immune modulation, and healthy aging. The mechanism of action involves direct antioxidant activity—scavenging reactive oxygen species—and supporting cellular redox balance.
