Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Liposomal irinotecan monotherapy refers to the investigational intraperitoneal administration of liposomal irinotecan (specifically CSPC Pharmaceutical Group's generic formulation, Duoenyi/HE072) as a single agent. It is being evaluated in a Phase Ib/II clinical trial (NCT07397819) sponsored by Sun Yat-sen University (led by Dr. Dong sheng Zhang) in collaboration with CSPC Pharmaceutical Group for the treatment of malignant ascites (malignant peritoneal effusion) in patients who have failed prior standard therapy. Irinotecan is a camptothecin derivative that acts as a DNA topoisomerase 1 inhibitor, preventing the religation of single-strand DNA breaks and leading to double-strand DNA damage and cell death. The liposomal formulation (nanoliposomal drug delivery system) extends the circulation half-life and enhances tumor accumulation of the active drug.
