Liposomal ropivacaine (LY03009) is a long-acting local anesthetic formulation developed by Luye Pharma. It utilizes a multivesicular liposome delivery system to encapsulate ropivacaine, an amide-type local anesthetic, allowing for the sustained release of the drug at the site of administration. This formulation is designed to provide prolonged analgesia, potentially lasting up to 72 hours, which is significantly longer than the duration provided by standard ropivacaine hydrochloride injections. By inhibiting voltage-gated sodium channels on nerve fibers, it prevents the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses, thereby providing effective postoperative pain relief. It is primarily being investigated for the management of postoperative pain following various surgical procedures, including hemorrhoidectomy and bunionectomy, with the goal of reducing the reliance on systemic opioids.
