Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Liposomal rosemary extract** is a formulation in which polyphenolic compounds or essential oils extracted from rosemary (*Rosmarinus officinalis L.*) are encapsulated in liposomes—artificially prepared vesicles composed of phospholipid bilayers[1][2][4][5]. This encapsulation improves the stability, solubility, and bioavailability of rosemary's active compounds, which include rosmarinic acid and other phenolic antioxidants. Liposomal delivery protects these polyphenols from rapid degradation and enhances their delivery to target tissues. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that liposomal rosemary extract displays enhanced antioxidant activity compared to non-encapsulated extracts and possesses antitumor and immunomodulatory properties. In animal models, PEGylated liposomal rosemary extract (LipRos) reduced tumor growth in colorectal cancer, modulated apoptosis-related genes (downregulating Bcl-2, upregulating Bax and IFN-γ), and increased cytotoxic T lymphocyte infiltration in tumors, suggesting both direct cytotoxic and immunostimulant effects[2][4]. Applications for liposomal rosemary extract include use as a natural antioxidant alternative in foods, and as a potential pharmaceutical agent in cancer and inflammatory diseases.
