Liposomal SPARC peptide is an experimental therapeutic formulation consisting of a peptide derived from the SPARC (Secreted Protein Acidic and Rich in Cysteine) protein encapsulated within a liposomal delivery system. The drug is designed to mimic a naturally occurring age-associated protective mechanism in the brain. Research indicates that aging activates MT1G/NFκB signaling in reactive astrocytes, leading to the secretion of SPARC, which inhibits brain metastasis. The liposomal SPARC peptide acts by targeting and inhibiting Integrin Beta 1 (ITGB1) signaling in tumor cells, thereby suppressing tumor growth and limiting the colonization of the brain by lung cancer cells. This targeted therapy is specifically being investigated to prevent or treat brain metastasis in younger lung cancer patients who lack the elevated SPARC levels typically found in older populations.
