Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lipotar S is a topical liposomal gel formulation developed by Lifecare Innovations for the treatment of inflammatory and hyperkeratotic skin conditions, including psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis. The product contains a combination of coal tar (2% w/w) and salicylic acid (2% w/w) encapsulated within a phospholipid-structured gel base. Coal tar serves as a keratoplastic agent that suppresses DNA synthesis and reduces mitotic activity in the epidermis, thereby slowing the rapid turnover of skin cells and alleviating itching and inflammation. Salicylic acid acts as a keratolytic agent, softening and facilitating the shedding of the stratum corneum, which enhances the penetration of coal tar into the skin lesions. The liposomal delivery system is designed to improve the bioavailability of the active ingredients while minimizing the irritation and characteristic odor associated with conventional coal tar preparations.
