Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lippia grata essential oil + β-cyclodextrin (LG-βCD) is a research-stage inclusion complex combining the essential oil of *Lippia grata* Schauer—a native shrub from Central and South America traditionally used for pain and inflammation—with β-cyclodextrin as a carrier. This formulation is designed to improve the solubility, stability, and bioavailability of the essential oil's active terpene constituents, such as camphor, camphene, and E-caryophyllene. Preclinical research, primarily led by academic groups like that of Lucindo J. Quintans-Júnior, has demonstrated the complex's efficacy in animal models of orofacial pain, chronic musculoskeletal pain, and Parkinson's disease. Its therapeutic effects are attributed to the modulation of opioidergic, serotonergic, and noradrenergic pain pathways, as well as neuroprotective mechanisms including the reduction of oxidative stress and α-synuclein protein aggregation in the brain.
