Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Liprostin is a liposome-encapsulated formulation of prostaglandin E1 (PGE-1), also known as alprostadil, developed by Endovasc for the treatment of peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD). As a naturally occurring vasoactive hormone, PGE-1 functions as a potent vasodilator and inhibitor of platelet aggregation, while also exhibiting anti-inflammatory and anti-thrombotic properties. The liposomal delivery system is designed to enhance the drug's therapeutic index and prolong its activity by protecting the active ingredient from rapid metabolism. Liprostin has been investigated as an adjunct therapy to lower limb angioplasty procedures and has advanced to Phase III clinical trials for the treatment of intermittent claudication.
