Overview

Liqingtong Granule is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in-hospital preparation developed by the 983 Hospital of the PLA Joint Service Support Force (formerly the 272nd Hospital). It is primarily indicated for the treatment of hyperuricemia and gouty arthritis. The formulation is composed of several herbal extracts, including *Smilax glabra*, *Plantago asiatica*, *Dioscorea septemloba*, and *Cyathula officinalis*, which act synergistically to manage urate levels. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of xanthine oxidase, thereby reducing the synthesis of uric acid, and the inhibition of renal urate transporters such as URAT1 (SLC22A12), which promotes the excretion of uric acid through the kidneys. Clinical application within the hospital system has shown it to be effective in lowering serum uric acid and reducing the frequency of gout flares with a favorable safety profile.
