Liquid platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF) is an autologous, second-generation platelet concentrate developed to overcome the limitations of solid fibrin clots. Produced using the Low-Speed Centrifugation Concept (LSCC), i-PRF remains in a liquid state for approximately 10 to 15 minutes before undergoing spontaneous polymerization into a dynamic fibrin gel. This liquid phase facilitates easy injection or incorporation into bone graft materials. Mechanistically, i-PRF serves as a biological scaffold that sequesters platelets, leukocytes, and fibrinogen, providing a sustained release of essential growth factors such as Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF), Transforming Growth Factor-beta (TGF-beta), and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF). These factors collectively promote mesenchymal stem cell proliferation, collagen synthesis, and angiogenesis, making i-PRF a versatile tool in regenerative dentistry, orthopedics, and aesthetic medicine.
