Overview
Liraglutide-depot is a once-weekly depot formulation of liraglutide, a synthetic glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist developed by Novo Nordisk for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Like standard liraglutide, it mimics endogenous GLP-1 to stimulate insulin secretion in response to elevated blood glucose levels, suppresses inappropriate glucagon release, delays gastric emptying, and reduces appetite. The depot formulation was designed for extended action compared to daily formulations. Development was discontinued after phase 1 clinical trials for type 2 diabetes[2][5].
