Overview
Liriopein B is a naturally occurring homoisoflavonoid compound isolated from the roots of Liriope platyphylla, a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine. It has demonstrated moderate anticancer activity in vitro, primarily through inhibition of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway by blocking AKT phosphorylation, and subsequent downstream inhibition of FoxO3a activity. This results in suppressed proliferation and promoted cell death of cancer cells. The compound has also shown activation effects on apoptosis- and autophagy-associated markers in cancer cells treated with related root extracts. Liriopein B is being investigated mainly for its potential as an anticancer (antineoplastic) agent targeting signaling kinases involved in cell growth and survival[1][5][6].
