Liriopis tuber extract is a traditional herbal medicine derived from the tuber of *Liriope platyphylla* Wang et Tang, a member of the Liliaceae family. Historically used in East Asian medicine for treating respiratory ailments such as cough, sputum production, and asthma, the extract has been the subject of preclinical investigation for its immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. Its mechanism of action involves the suppression of proinflammatory mediators, including nitric oxide and cytokines such as IL-6, IL-10, and IL-12p40, as well as the inhibition of transcription factors like NF-κB and CREB. In murine models of asthma, the extract has demonstrated the ability to reduce airway hyperresponsiveness and eosinophilic inflammation by modulating the Th1/Th2 cytokine balance, specifically decreasing levels of IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, and IgE.
