Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Listerine Mild is a reduced-alcohol or alcohol-free variant of the Listerine antiseptic mouthwash line, designed for a less intense taste while maintaining antimicrobial efficacy. The formulation typically contains four essential oils—eucalyptol, menthol, methyl salicylate, and thymol—which act as broad-spectrum antimicrobial and virucidal agents. These components work by penetrating and disrupting the lipid bilayer of bacterial cell walls and the lipid envelopes of viruses, such as SARS-CoV-2. In clinical research, specifically a study led by the Universität Witten/Herdecke (DRKS00023725), Listerine Mild was investigated for its potential to reduce the salivary viral load in COVID-19 patients. It is an over-the-counter (OTC) product manufactured by Kenvue (formerly a division of Johnson & Johnson).
