Overview
Listex is a commercial preparation of the bacteriophage P100, a lytic virus that specifically infects and kills Listeria monocytogenes on foods and food-contact surfaces to reduce the risk of listeriosis. Developed as a targeted biocontrol agent for use in food processing environments, it works by binding to Listeria cells, injecting its genetic material, replicating within the bacteria, and causing bacterial lysis, thereby lowering Listeria contamination without affecting other microorganisms or altering the sensory properties of treated foods.
