litazolid

Litazolid (SZ-011) is a novel oxazolidinone antibiotic developed by Sichuan Saizhuo Pharmaceutical for the treatment of serious bacterial infections, including community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP). As a member of the oxazolidinone class, litazolid exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting protein synthesis through binding to the 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S ribosomal subunit. This action prevents the formation of the functional 70S initiation complex, which is essential for bacterial translation. Litazolid is designed to be effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive pathogens, including multi-drug resistant strains such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae. The drug is currently undergoing clinical evaluation in China to establish its safety and efficacy profile in patients with pneumonia.
