Overview

Litchi procyanidins are oligomeric and polymeric flavan-3-ols extracted from various parts of the litchi (*Litchi chinensis*) fruit, including the pericarp (peel), seed, and pulp. They are especially rich in A-type procyanidins. Litchi procyanidins possess notable **antioxidant** activity, demonstrated by their ability to scavenge free radicals and reduce oxidative stress. Mechanistically, they exhibit **anti-inflammatory**, **antidiabetic**, **anti-atherosclerotic**, and **anticancer** properties. Preclinical studies show that litchi procyanidins inhibit colon cancer cell proliferation and metastasis, largely by modulating gut microbiota and enhancing CD8+ T cell immune responses. They also have potential to inhibit xanthine oxidase, decrease serum uric acid, and provide other metabolic and microbiome-related benefits. Main oligomeric constituents include epicatechin, procyanidin B2, procyanidin C1, and A-type trimeric procyanidins[1][2][6].
