Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lithium liposome is a cosmetic product formulated with lithium encapsulated within liposomes, currently under evaluation for the repigmentation of vitiligo. The liposomal delivery system is designed to enhance the penetration of lithium into the skin, improving its bioavailability and targeted action. Lithium, as the active ingredient, is understood to exert its effects, in part, through the inhibition of Glycogen Synthase Kinase-3 beta (GSK-3β). This mechanism is believed to promote melanocyte proliferation and migration, which are crucial processes for restoring pigmentation in vitiligo, a condition characterized by the loss of melanocytes. The product is being developed by Laboratoire Dermatologique ACM.
