Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Liu Wei Di Huang Wan is a classical Chinese herbal formula composed of six distinct herbs: Rehmannia root (Shu Di Huang), Cornus fruit (Shan Zhu Yu), Chinese yam rhizome (Shan Yao), Poria sclerotium (Fu Ling), Tree peony root bark (Mu Dan Pi), and Asian water plantain rhizome (Ze Xie)[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. Originally formulated by Qian Yi in 1119, it remains one of the most famous herbal formulas for nourishing Kidney and Liver Yin in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)[1][3]. The formulation is used to address patterns of Kidney Yin Deficiency, often presenting with symptoms such as weakness and soreness in the lower back and limbs, emission and sweating, lightheadedness, tinnitus, and other manifestations associated with aging, menopause, and chronic disease[2][4][5][7]. Modern research has explored its mechanisms including modulation of inflammation, enhancement of pancreatic β-cell function, and regulation of hepatic gluconeogenesis[5]. It is widely used for conditions such as diabetes, menopausal syndrome, hypertension, and systemic lupus erythematosus[5][7].
