Liuhedan Ruangao is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) topical ointment primarily developed and utilized by West China Hospital, Sichuan University. It is a multi-component herbal preparation traditionally used for its heat-clearing, detoxifying, and anti-inflammatory properties. The formulation typically includes herbs such as *Rheum palmatum* (Dahuang), *Phellodendron amurense* (Huangbai), and *Curcuma longa* (Jianghuang). In the clinical setting, it is applied topically to the abdomen of patients suffering from acute pancreatitis to alleviate abdominal pain and reduce systemic and local inflammation. The drug is currently undergoing Phase II clinical evaluation in China to establish its efficacy and safety for pain relief in moderately severe acute pancreatitis.
