Overview

Liuwei Dihuang Decoction (also known as Liuwei Dihuang Tang or Liuwei Dihuang Wan in pill form) is a classic, widely used Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula first recorded in the Song Dynasty. It is composed of six medicinal herbs: Rehmannia glutinosa (Shudi Huang), Cornus officinalis (Shanzhuyu), Dioscorea opposita (Shanyao), Alisma orientale (Zexie), Poria cocos (Fuling), and Paeonia suffruticosa (Mudanpi). Traditionally prescribed to nourish 'Kidney-Yin' deficiency, modern pharmacological research indicates that the decoction modulates the neuroendocrine immunomodulation (NIM) network, improves insulin sensitivity, and regulates reproductive hormones. Jiangsu Province Hospital of Chinese Medicine has investigated Liuwei Dihuang Decoction in clinical trials for the treatment of infertile women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) undergoing ovulation induction, evaluating its effects on ovarian granulosa cell secretion.
