Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Liuwei Dihuang Glycoside refers to the glycosidic (glucoside) fraction isolated from Liuwei Dihuang, a classical traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula. This formula is widely used in China for conditions associated with "kidney yin deficiency" and has been studied for its effects on diabetes, chronic kidney disease (CKD), cognitive dysfunctions, and other metabolic or degenerative diseases. The glycosidic fraction contains multiple bioactive compounds such as 7-dehydrologanin, morroniside, sweroside, loganin, paeoniflorin, paeonolide and loganic acid[6]. Mechanistically, Liuwei Dihuang Glycosides exert their effects through inhibition of α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes—key targets in glucose metabolism—resulting in antidiabetic activity[2]. Network pharmacology studies suggest additional multi-target actions involving modulation of inflammatory pathways (e.g., TNF signaling), oxidative stress responses (AGE-RAGE pathway), nuclear factor receptor activity (e.g., ESR1/estrogen receptor), and cytokine regulation[3][8]. The product is developed by the Academy of Military Medical Sciences Institute of Toxicology & Pharmacology[1].
