Overview
Liuwei Dihuang Glycoside Tablet is a refined botanical drug candidate developed by the Institute of Toxicology and Pharmacology at the Academy of Military Medical Sciences (AMMS) in China. It is a purified formulation derived from the classic Liuwei Dihuang formula, a cornerstone of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) used to treat Kidney Yin Deficiency. The tablet contains standardized active fractions, primarily glycosides and polysaccharides (often referred to in research as LW-AFC), extracted from six herbs: Rehmannia glutinosa, Cornus officinalis, Paeonia suffruticosa, Dioscorea opposita, Poria cocos, and Alisma orientale. It is specifically being developed for the treatment of menopausal syndrome, where it is thought to modulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis and exert estrogen-like effects to alleviate symptoms such as hot flashes and mood disturbances. Clinical trials, including Phase 2 dose-response studies, have utilized the modified Kupperman scale to evaluate its efficacy compared to traditional Liuwei Dihuang pills and placebo.
