Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Liuweibuqi is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is specifically designed for the treatment of stable-stage Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), particularly in patients diagnosed with the Lung-Spleen Qi Deficiency pattern. The formulation typically consists of six primary herbal ingredients: Astragalus membranaceus (Huangqi), Codonopsis pilosula (Dangshen), Atractylodes macrocephala (Baizhu), Poria cocos (Fuling), Schisandra chinensis (Wuweizi), and Ophiopogon japonicus (Maidong). Liuweibuqi functions by modulating the immune system and reducing airway inflammation through the downregulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-8. Clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in improving lung function, increasing respiratory muscle strength, and reducing the frequency of acute exacerbations in COPD patients. It is currently utilized as a hospital-approved preparation in China.
