Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Livatag is a nanoparticle formulation of the anthracycline chemotherapy doxorubicin, developed using Onxeo’s proprietary Transdrug technology to overcome multidrug resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma. It consists of doxorubicin encapsulated in biodegradable polymer nanoparticles that preferentially accumulate in liver tissue and chemoresistant tumor cells, enabling higher intratumoral exposure while aiming to limit systemic toxicity.[2][5][7][11][13] Originally developed by BioAlliance Pharma (later renamed Onxeo), Livatag was evaluated as a second-line treatment for advanced primary liver cancer after sorafenib in the Phase III ReLive trial but failed to demonstrate an overall survival benefit versus control.[1][3][9][12][13]
