This live attenuated H1N1 influenza vaccine is a monovalent vaccine candidate designed to protect against the A(H1N1)pdm09 influenza virus. Developed using cold-adapted master donor strain (MDV) technology licensed from the Institute of Experimental Medicine (IEM), the vaccine is administered intranasally to stimulate a broad immune response, including mucosal IgA and systemic IgG antibodies, as well as T-cell mediated immunity. Clinical Network Services (CNS) served as the sponsor and developer for Phase I clinical trials in Australia, which evaluated the safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of the vaccine in healthy adult volunteers during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic. The vaccine mimics natural infection to induce immunity without causing the disease, utilizing a temperature-sensitive virus that replicates only in the cooler environment of the upper respiratory tract.
