Live attenuated influenza vaccine monovalent refers to single-strain formulations of live attenuated influenza vaccines (LAIV) developed for specific pandemic response or research purposes. These vaccines utilize cold-adapted, temperature-sensitive, and attenuated influenza virus strains that are administered intranasally. The attenuated virus replicates in the cooler environment of the nasopharynx, inducing a multifaceted immune response including mucosal IgA, systemic antibodies, and cellular immunity without causing systemic disease. During the 2009 H1N1 pandemic, monovalent LAIVs were developed by companies such as MedImmune (AstraZeneca) and the Serum Institute of India to target the A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)pdm09 strain. These vaccines are critical tools for pandemic preparedness, allowing for rapid response to emerging influenza threats.
