Overview
This is a combination of two live attenuated vaccines administered together for the prevention of varicella (chickenpox) and Japanese encephalitis (JE). The live attenuated varicella vaccine contains an Oka strain of varicella-zoster virus, which induces immunity by mimicking natural infection and stimulating both humoral and cellular immune responses[1][5]. The live attenuated JE vaccine (such as JE-CV or SA14-14-2) uses a weakened form of the Japanese encephalitis virus to elicit protective neutralizing antibodies against JE[6][8]. Both vaccines are primarily indicated for children in endemic regions or travelers at risk. Co-administration has been shown to be safe and immunogenic, with no significant reduction in efficacy or increase in adverse events compared to separate administration[6][8].
