Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Live lactobacillus capsules are live biotherapeutic products (LBPs) designed for vaginal administration to restore and maintain a healthy vaginal microecology. These preparations typically contain one or more strains of beneficial *Lactobacillus* species, such as *L. acidophilus*, *L. crispatus*, or *L. rhamnosus*. In conditions like genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) or bacterial vaginosis, the natural vaginal flora is often depleted, leading to an increase in vaginal pH and the overgrowth of pathogenic microorganisms. By replenishing the *Lactobacillus* population, these capsules facilitate the production of lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide, which acidify the vaginal environment and inhibit pathogens. In the context of GSM, this restoration of the microbiome helps alleviate symptoms such as dryness, irritation, and recurrent infections by supporting the health and integrity of the vaginal epithelium.
