Overview

Liversil is a standardized herbal medicinal product developed by the Iranian Institute of Medicinal Plants (IMP). It is derived from the seeds of *Silybum marianum* (Milk Thistle) and is standardized to contain a specific concentration of silymarin, a complex of flavonolignans including silybin, silydianin, and silychristin. The drug is primarily used for its hepatoprotective properties in the treatment of liver ailments such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), toxic liver damage, and chronic inflammatory liver conditions like hepatitis and cirrhosis. Liversil functions by acting as a free radical scavenger, inhibiting lipid peroxidation, and enhancing protein synthesis in hepatocytes by stimulating RNA polymerase I, thereby promoting the repair and regeneration of liver tissue.
