Livin peptide-loaded dendritic cell + cytokine-induced killer cell (DC/CIK) therapy is an experimental autologous adoptive cellular immunotherapy. The therapy involves harvesting a patient's dendritic cells (DCs) and loading them with a peptide derived from Livin (BIRC7), a tumor-associated antigen and member of the inhibitor of apoptosis protein (IAP) family that is overexpressed in various malignancies, including non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). These antigen-presenting cells are then combined with cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells—a heterogeneous population of effector lymphocytes with potent non-MHC-restricted cytolytic activity—to stimulate a targeted immune response against Livin-expressing tumor cells. Primarily investigated in China by the Third Military Medical University, this therapy is typically evaluated in combination with radiotherapy or chemotherapy for patients with middle- or terminal-stage NSCLC to improve immune function and clinical efficacy.
