LIVP-RFP is a recombinant oncolytic vaccinia virus derived from the Lister strain (LIVP). It is engineered to express Red Fluorescent Protein (RFP), which serves as a reporter for monitoring viral infection, replication, and spread within tumors using fluorescence-based imaging techniques. As an oncolytic virus, it selectively targets and replicates in cancer cells, leading to direct cell lysis (oncolysis) and the release of tumor-associated antigens. This process promotes a pro-inflammatory tumor microenvironment and enhances the recruitment of immune cells. In preclinical glioblastoma models, LIVP-RFP has been used to evaluate the efficacy of virotherapy and its synergy with cell-based immunotherapies like tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs).
