LJPC-30S is an investigational next-generation gentamicin derivative program from La Jolla Pharmaceutical, designed as a set of purified gentamicin components that maintain the broad-spectrum antibacterial activity of gentamicin while aiming to substantially reduce its traditional kidney toxicity.[2] The program focuses on developing therapeutics derived from specific gentamicin subspecies for the potential treatment of serious bacterial infections and certain rare genetic disorders, including cystic fibrosis and Duchenne muscular dystrophy, leveraging gentamicin’s ability to induce translational read-through of premature stop codons in some genetic diseases.[1][2][7][9] As of the latest public disclosures, LJPC-30S remains an early-stage, preclinical-to-Phase 1–oriented R&D program rather than a single, fully characterized clinical drug product.[2][5]
