Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**LJPC-30Sb** is a next-generation gentamicin derivative developed by La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company as a purified component of commercial gentamicin. It retains gentamicin's broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity through inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, while engineered to eliminate the nephrotoxicity associated with standard gentamicin. The drug targets serious bacterial infections and rare genetic disorders caused by nonsense mutations, such as cystic fibrosis and Duchenne muscular dystrophy, by promoting read-through of premature stop codons during translation.[1][3][5][6]
